Iowa's Budget Problem 

Iowans are cutting expenses and so must government.  Because of Iowa's unprecedented shortfall in revenue, the governor and legislature are cutting the budgets of state funded programs and entities, including the budget of the Iowa Judicial Branch—the state's court system.  The Iowa Judicial Branch has already undertaken a number of cost-cutting measures to reduce its expenditures for the current fiscal year (FY 09).  Deeper cuts will be necessary for the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2009.  Regrettably, these budget cuts will inevitably reduce court services to Iowans.    

  

We want your ideas for 

·         Steps our courts can take to reduce expenses, streamline operations and improve efficiency 

·         Redesigning the court system to reduce expenses while ensuring a reasonable level of access to court services 

·         Other measures that will enable the continuation of essential court services in the face of a greatly reduced operating budget
