for jury service:
Jury service is for one calendar month following the month you receive this
notice. Please note that neither the
Court Attendant nor the Clerk of Court can excuse a juror from jury duty. An excuse for medical reasons requires a
doctor's recommendation.
It is
the responsibility of each juror to call the telephone number listed below each
Monday, after 5:00 p.m.,
for the entire month of service. A
recorded message will give jurors instructions for the following day's
service. The number to call is 328-4832.
As cases are often settled at the last minute, any juror who appears
unnecessarily for service will not be paid for that day. It is important that all jurors who have been
instructed to report check in with the Clerk's Office on the 4th
Floor each day that they have jury duty, or they will not be paid.
It is
not necessary that all jurors report in person on the first day! Please save yourself a trip- call 328-4832
after 5:00 p.m. on Monday
evenings for instructions.
What to wear to court:
Please report for jury service wearing respectable clothes. As a general rule, business or business
casual clothing is acceptable. The following
types of clothing are not suitable for court proceedings: shorts, tube tops, halter tops, clothing that
contains any obscene, suggestive or inflammatory print or images, and clothes
that are overly dirty or ragged.
Absences/Emergencies: If illness or emergency prevents you
attendance, call 328-5759 as early as possible after receiving this notice of
the trial.
Travel, mileage and other expenses: Jurors are reimbursed for travel to and
from residence to the courthouse at a rate approved by the supreme court.
Compensation:
Pursuant to state law, you will be paid $30 a day for each day of jury
service up to seven days; $50 a day for eight or more days of service. You may waive the right to compensation,
which will help reduce the state's cost of operating the court system.
