or call Donna Lopez at (563) 326-8743.
Courthouse hours: 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
Contact Information: Donna Lopez. Phone number:
(563) 326-8743.
Jurors' trial status number: Jurors are to
call (563) 326-8200 after 5:00 P.M. on the Friday before their scheduled
service date (located on the front of the jury summons form). This automated
telephone answering system is designed to inform jurors of their reporting
requirements.
Where to park:
Free parking spaces are available for jurors in the Scott County visitor
parking lot located directly west of the Scott County Courthouse and jail
(note: jurors may park in this lot all day without being ticketed). Do not park in any space marked
"reserved". Jurors are also welcome to park in the county parking lots directly
north of the railroad tracks (the first between Western Avenue and Scott
Street, and the second between Scott and Ripley), and additional parking is
available for jurors in the parking lot of the County Administration Building at 600 West
4th Street between Western Avenue and Gaines Street. Parking at the 202 Harrison Street
City parking ramp will cost jurors 75 cents an hour and a maximum of $7.50 a
day.
If a juror's mobility is
limited due to age, infirmity, injury, illness, disability, or other factor,
and the juror receives a parking ticket from the City of Davenport for an expired meter while his or
her car is parked on the street during the period of jury service, the City
will excuse the ticket upon proof of jury service. This excusing of tickets is
only for persons of limited mobility. A
juror must see Donna in Court Administration if the juror receives a
ticket. Do not park in fire lanes or in
handicapped parking without a handicapped parking permit.
Courthouse security information: The sheriff's department is responsible for
providing security in the courthouse. Immediately upon entering the courthouse,
you will pass through a security system similar to that used in airports. Thus,
you may want to avoid having an excessive amount of metal or electronic objects
on your person. There may also be a wait due to the number of jurors and other
courthouse users entering the courthouse at the same time.
Contact for ADA accommodations: If a juror requires the assist of auxiliary aids or
services to participate in court because of a disability, immediately call ADA
Coordinator Kathy Gaylord at (563) 328-4145 (if hearing impaired, call Relay
Iowa TTY at 1-800-735-2942),
Inside the courthouse—where to report for jury service: In the
interest of saving government funds, jurors call (563)326-8200 after 5:00 P.M.
on the Friday before their service date. The recorded message will inform
jurors of the time and place to report, or will advise them if there has been a
change in their service date. Ordinarily, jurors must report no later than 8
A.M. on the first day of jury service. To enter the courthouse, walk under the
large stone archway captioned "Scott County Courthouse and Jail" and through
the main doors of the glass building facing West 4th Street (the southwest
side of the courthouse). After proceeding through security, proceed down the
wide hallway to the courthouse lobby. From the lobby, take the elevators to the
3rd floor. If selected to sit on a jury, reporting time for
subsequent days will be provided by the Court.
What to wear to court:
Please
report for jury service wearing respectable clothes. As a general rule, business or business
casual clothing is acceptable. The
following types of clothing are not suitable for court proceedings: shorts, tube tops, halter tops, clothing that
contains any obscene, suggestive or inflammatory print or images, and clothes
that are overly dirty or ragged.
Absences/Emergencies: If illness or emergency prevents attendance on a
juror's first day of jury service, or for any session of court, please call Jury Manager Donna Lopez at (563)
326-8743 as near to 8:00 A.M. as possible.
Travel, mileage and other expenses: Jurors are reimbursed for travel to and from residence to the
courthouse at a rate approved by the supreme court. Payment is computed on the last day of jury
service. Compensation is mailed to jurors. For those jurors that are car
pooling, only the driver of the car may claim mileage.
Compensation:
Pursuant to
state law, you will be paid $30 a day for each day of jury service up to seven
days; $50 a day for eight or more days of service. You may waive the right to compensation,
which will help reduce the state's cost of operating the court system.
