Iowa Court of
Appeals To Hear Arguments in Spirit Lake
Des Moines, March 24, 2009—On Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2, the
Iowa Court of Appeals will hear arguments in the Dickinson County Courthouse
located at the junction of Highways 71 and 9 and Hill Avenue in Spirit
Lake. In addition to the Dickinson
County case of Lair v. Motor Inn, the
court will hear cases from Carroll, Cerro Gordo, Crawford, Floyd, Lyon, Monona,
Pocahontas, Sioux, Webster, and Woodbury counties. The oral arguments will be held in the community room on the
ground floor of the courthouse and are open to the public.
The three-judge panel hearing the arguments includes
Court of Appeals Judges Rosemary Sackett, and Gayle Vogel, and Senior Judge
Frank Nelson. The new Dickinson County
Courthouse is well-equipped to hold the arguments. Moving the arguments from Des Moines, where they are generally
held, will save the state travel expenses for the three judges living in the
Spirit Lake area. The change in
location is part of the court's effort to operate within current budget
restrictions imposed as a result of low state revenues.
For specific information about the cases, attorneys,
dates, and times of the arguments, consult the schedule posted on the judicial
branch website at www.iowacourts.gov/Court_of_Appeals/Oral_Argument_Schedule/.
