Iowa Judicial Branch Website Receives Award

Des Moines, August 4, 2009— The Iowa Judicial Branch website is a recipient of the Justice Served Top-10 Court Website Award for the second time in four years. The award recognizes court websites for excellent customer service and exceptional access to justice. Nearly 3,000 sites throughout the world were reviewed by the award sponsor.

The sponsor looked for a combination of interactive content, e-government services, ease of navigation and aesthetics. Iowa's website was recognized for its full array of online services including dockets, payments and jury services. The Iowa Judicial Branch website address is www.iowacourts.gov

"We're extremely honored to have our website recognized with this prestigious award for the second time," Chief Justice Marsha Ternus said. "Our staff is continually looking for ways to add helpful information and useful services to our website.  Our aim is to provide the public with access to services and information at the touch of a finger."

The Iowa Judicial Branch website first appeared in 1998. Since then it has grown to include a host of online services including court docket records, juror questionnaire submission, electronic payment of court fines and fees, a speakers bureau, and professional regulation compliance. The site also offers court forms for litigants who represent themselves in certain court proceedings, appellate court decisions, committee reports, biographical information of all judges and magistrates, and a wide array of public information.

"Our website is the product of a team effort so many people deserve recognition for this award," Chief Justice Ternus said. "Our talented and hardworking webmaster, supreme court staff, technology office, commissions' office, state court administration, district court administration, and the state information technology office, all play a part in the delivery of this award winning website."

JUSTICE SERVED is a court management and technology consulting firm working with courts and justice agencies worldwide. The firm issues annual Top 10 Court Website Awards to honor the best of class in web service delivery, and has done so since 1999. All court websites are considered in this competition, not just those that are nominated. Current and past winners, along with the evaluation criteria, can be found at www.justiceserved.com.  Further analysis of this competition can be found at the Serving Justice Blog at http://blog.justiceserved.com
