OF THE JUDICIARY MESSAGE —JANUARY
13
Des Moines, January 8, 2010— On Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at
10 a.m. in the House Chambers, Chief Justice Marsha Ternus of the Iowa Supreme
Court will address a joint convention of the General Assembly on the State of
the Judiciary. The chief justice will discuss
the harmful effects the state budget cuts have had on Iowans' access to
justice. She will also discuss the importance of adequately funding the courts,
the heightened need for court services during bad economic times, the
disproportionate impact of the state's budget cuts on the courts, stop gap
measures the courts have taken to minimize the problems caused by budget cuts,
and the need to redesign court procedures, practices and structure to help
maintain access to justice through the state's financial crisis and into the
future.
