New Website Address for Iowa
Judicial Branch
Des Moines, May 28, 2008—The Iowa court system will make it easier for Iowans
to find its award-winning website with a new, shorter web address beginning August 1. The new web address,
iowacourts.gov, is simpler, shorter and easier to remember than the previous
address of judicial.state.ia.us.
"The "dot-gov" domain is
used by most Iowa state agencies so it is logical for the Iowa's state court
system to adopt this domain. More
importantly, the new address is much easier to recognize and remember," Supreme
Court Chief Justice Marsha Ternus said.
"A site that is easier to find will be critical in the future as the
courts provide more online services and information."
The Judicial Branch website
averages more than 200,000 page views a day. Through this website people can
pay fines, find basic case information, respond to a jury summons, view video
of Iowa Supreme Court oral arguments, learn about the court system, find court
forms and much more.
The new
website address is already activated, but not yet displayed on the website
banner. To ease the transition, the
judicial branch will continue access via the old website for one year.
The Iowa Judicial Branch
website was a recipient of the Justice Served Top-10 Court Website Award for
2006. The award recognized court
websites for excellent customer service and exceptional access to justice.
NOTE: The Iowa
Judicial Branch only owns the rights to iowacourts.gov. The judicial branch does not have
any affiliation with iowacourts.com or iowacourts.org.
