Winneshiek County Courthouse
The first courthouse was completed
in 1858. It cost $18,000 to build. The two-story building housed the sheriff's
residence, jail, offices and a courtroom until 1902.
The second and present
courthouse cost $125,000 to build. There are beautiful stone carvings above the
entrances. The price tag was a bit too steep at the time, but today the
citizens of Decorah are very proud of their courthouse.
