Today is the last day of the 2023-2024 Iowa Supreme Court adjudicative term. During the term, 104 cases were submitted to the court. Chief Justice Christensen has signed an order establishing and appointing members to the 2024 Iowa Child Support Guidelines Review Committee. The Federal Family Support Act of 1988 requires that every four years each state must review its child support guidelines “to ensure that their application results in the determination of appropriate child support award amounts.” The committee will complete its work and submit a final report to the court on or before April 1, 2025.

The Iowa Supreme Court has approved $870,244 in grants to nonprofit programs that provide legal assistance to low-income Iowans with civil legal problems.

The nominating commission met Wednesday, May 29, 2024, to interview the applicants for the vacancy. Following the interviews, the commission deliberated and selected a slate of five nominees from the group of applicants and delivered the slate to the Governor.
This afternoon, the state nominating commission will interview eight candidates to fill the vacancy on the Iowa Court of Appeals arising from the retirement of Chief Judge Thomas Bower.
