Summary

Judicial Specialist 1 position with District Court Administration in Waterloo, IA. 

Current D1 Judicial Specialists that apply and are hired into this position retain their current classification and rate of pay.

Responsibilities

Under general supervision, performs customer service, clerical, paralegal tasks, and/or administrative work necessary for: maintenance and processing of court records, maintenance of case assignments and scheduling, maintenance of proper courtroom decorum and assisting the judicial officer(s) to achieve the efficient operation of the court. Supervision will be with the District Court Administrator.  Must possess excellent customer service, communication and computer skills.  Ability and desire to learn the complexities of court case processing using our statewide Electronic Document Management System (EDMS).  Ability to maintain a pleasant demeanor while working in a fast paced environment providing exemplary assistance to a wide range of court users.  Applicant must possess problem solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.  Occasional travel to other counties may be required.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and two (2) years of successful completion of accredited post high school education in business, paralegal, computer, legal assistant or related program.  Two (2) years of professional office experience with at least one (1) year of customer experience.

At the discretion of the appointing authority additional years of experience may be substituted for the required post high school education.  Or, the successful completion of additional years of education (i.e., Bachelor’s Degree) may be substituted for years of experience on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of professional experience.  Education cannot substitute customer service experience.  

Must be bondable.

National Career Readiness Certificate preferred. Testing is available at all Iowa WORKS locations and results are available immediately. 

Final candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check.
