Position Summary

The Seventh Judicial District of Iowa is seeking to fill a new, permanent hybrid position which will specialize in audio/visual courtroom technologies and assist with case scheduling in the District Court Administration office. This position will serve as the primary digital recordings manager for the judicial district, responsible for organizing and maintaining the digital court record. The position will regularly test and troubleshoot issues with courtroom audio/visual systems and will provide assistance, as needed, with case scheduling in Clinton, Muscatine and Scott Counties.

The position is classified as a Judicial Specialist 2, with opportunity for advancement, and will work normal business hours, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

The following are examples of major job duties expected for this position to perform:

Ensure all courtrooms have fully functioning audio and visual systems through regular testing and troubleshooting.

Effectively operate and manage digital recording management software.

Monitor compliance of digital recording policies by judicial officers and other court support staff.

Organize and maintain digitally recorded court proceedings.

Purge digitally recorded proceedings on a regular basis according to Judicial Branch retention policy.

Process requests for copies of digitally recorded court proceedings and assist the District Court Administrator, or designee, with requests for a transcript of a digitally recorded proceeding.

Train employees on the use of audio/visual courtroom technologies.

Create and maintain user guides on audio/visual courtroom technologies.

Provide support to judicial officers with video conferencing technology, including GoToMeeting.

Schedule court proceedings with attorneys, self-represented parties and judicial officers.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and two (2) years of successful completion of accredited post high school education in business, paralegal, computer, legal assistant or related program. Two (2) years of professional office experience in business, court or legal work or a related area with one (1) year of the experience involving customer service. At the discretion of the appointing authority additional years of experience may be substituted for the required post high school education.  Or, the successful completion of additional years of education (i.e., Bachelor’s Degree) may be substituted for years of experience on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience.  Education cannot be substituted for customer service experience. 

While the position is primarily located in Davenport, Iowa, occasional travel within the Seventh Judicial District, particularly to Clinton and Muscatine Counties, may be required in the performance of duties. Successful candidate must possess a valid driver's license.

Preference may be given to applicants with general knowledge of audio/visual systems, video conferencing systems, digital video and audio recording equipment, and A/V infrastructure. Preference will be given to candidates whose work experience provides evidence of strong customer service skills; sound professional judgment; the ability to work cooperatively with team members; and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Final candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check.
