Juvenile Court Services has two Juvenile Court Officer 1 positions available. These positions are under the leadership of the Chief Juvenile Court Officer within the Fifth Judicial District. The positions are located in the Polk County Justice Center office.
The Juvenile Court Officer I handles matters pertaining to delinquent youth, pursuant to Iowa Code Chapter 232, including intake, diversion, supervision, and prevention activities. Makes recommendations to the Court regarding detention and custody, conducts pre-dispositional investigations, prepares reports to the court, testifies in court about dispositional and other recommendations, incorporates evidenced based practices into daily work, supervises probation, motivates youth and families and engages them in then change process, coordinates and monitors services provided by various agencies to juvenile clients. Responsible for responding to emergency matters outside of normal working hours. Serves as a peace officer during the performance of his/her duties.
A Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in law, criminal justice, criminology, sociology, or related social science. Must possess personal integrity and emotional maturity. Must successfully complete training requirements set by the Iowa Supreme Court. Must possess a valid Iowa motor vehicle operator's license, unless an exception is made.
Candidates must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
