Position Summary
To serve as the official court reporter for District Court Judge Lars Anderson in Cedar Rapids, IA. Primary domicile is Cedar Rapids, IA, Linn Co. Travel to other counties within the Sixth Judicial District is required.
Responsibilities
Takes court testimony and proceedings by shorthand reporting methods. Reads back court testimony and proceedings upon request. Makes verbatim typed record of testimony and proceedings as required. Marks and records exhibits during court proceedings. Prepares transcripts, performs general office work and provides substantial clerical support for the court. Performs related work as determined by the supervising judicial officer, the Chief Judge or his or her designee.
Requirements
Graduation from an accredited high school (GED); graduation from a school of court reporting required, with courses including legal and medical terminology, English, typing and law. Must be certified as a court reporter by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters.*
*Certification is preferred, but competent candidates without certification are encouraged to apply with the understanding that they must receive certification within six months of beginning employment pursuant to Iowa Code Section 602.6603(4).
Final candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check.
