Position Summary
Court Reporter for the Seventh Judicial District, primarily assigned to work for Chief District Court Judge Greve in Davenport, Iowa. The position will work in all five counties in the Seventh Judicial District, including Cedar, Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine and Scott Counties, and may be assigned to work with any judicial officer as needed. Compensation includes base salary plus transcript income and State of Iowa benefit package.
Responsibilities
Takes court testimony and proceedings by shorthand reporting methods. Reads back court testimony and proceedings upon request. Makes verbatim typed record of testimony and proceedings as required. Marks and records exhibits during court proceedings. Prepares transcripts, performs general office work and provides substantial clerical support for the court. Performs related work as determined by the supervising judicial officer, the Chief Judge or his or her designee.
Requirements
Graduation from an accredited high school (or high school equivalency); graduation from a school of court reporting with courses including legal and medical terminology, English, typing and law. Must be certified as a court reporter by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters or become certified within six months of hire. Current RPRs are only required to take and pass the written portion of the Iowa exam. Final candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check.
