Judge Ovrom, Des Moines, was appointed to the bench in 1999. She was born and raised in Keosauqua, Iowa, and graduated magna cum laude from Coe College in 1975 and from the University of Iowa College of law with high honors in 1979. Before her appointment to the bench, she served as an as civil bureau chief of the Polk County Attorney’s Office, and as an assistant Iowa Attorney General. [She has been active in local, state, and national bar organizations, and has served on the Civil Justice Reform Task Force, the Child Support Guidelines Review Committee, the Child Support Advisory Committee, and the faculty of the Iowa Judicial Branch’s new judges training school. She helped implement the Fifth Judicial District’s family law mediation program, and has been actively involved in planning new court facilities in Polk County.] She was appointed assistant chief judge of the Fifth Judicial District in 2014.
