Judge Hutchison was appointed to the bench in 1990. Born in Prairie City, Iowa, he earned his bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1971. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1974 with his law degree and worked at a private law firm until his appointment to the bench. Judge Hutchison is a member of the Polk County and Iowa State Bar Associations. He serves on the Bench-Bar Committee of the Polk County Bar Association.
Judge Hutchison was appointed senior judge in January of 2016.
