Magistrate Nielsen was appointed to the bench in 2014. He received his undergraduate degree from Birmingham Southern College in 1986 and his J.D. from Cumberland Law School-Stanford University in 1989. Prior to his appointment, he worked in private practice for over 30 years in Creston, IA. He is a member of the Union County Bar Association and the Iowa State Bar Association.
