Magistrate Thomas, Iowa City, was appointed to serve Johnson County in June 2013. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1993 and his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1996. He worked at a small firm in Washington, Iowa, for two years before taking over as the supervising attorney at the University of Iowa Student Legal Services. In 2003 he started his own private law practice and in 2009 began serving as a Judicial Hospitalization Referee in Johnson County. In 2011 he closed his private practice to become General Counsel to a non-profit health care provider, Simpson Memorial Home, Inc. He is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association and Iowa Association of Magistrate Judges.
