Judge Douglas S. Russell was educated at Grinnell College and the University of Iowa College of Law. He is a U.S. Army veteran. He served as an Assistant Johnson County Attorney from 1978 through 1980 and was in the private practice of law from 1980 to 1999. He served as the first counsel to the Iowa City Police Citizens Review Board. He was appointed to the district court bench in 1999 and was the Assistant Chief Judge of the Sixth Judicial District from 2009 to his retirement from the bench in April of 2015. He is currently serving as a senior judge with the Sixth Judicial District. He is a member of the Johnson County Bar Association, the Dean Mason Ladd Inn of Court, and the Iowa Judges Association. He is married and has four step-children.
