Judge Scieszinski was born in Muscatine, grew up on an Eastern Iowa farm, and graduated from Iowa Wesleyan University in 1977 and the University of Iowa Law School in 1980. After 15 years as a lawyer in Albia including 8 years as Monroe County Attorney, she was appointed to the District Court in 1996 to serve in District 8A. In 2013 Judge Scieszinski was also named as one of three trial judges on the Iowa Business Court, a pilot project for complex litigation. She attained Senior Judge status in 2017. Judge Scieszinski is a past president of the Iowa Judges Association and received its Award of Merit in 2014. A past chair of the National Conference of State Trial Judges, she heads judicial-education programming for the American Bar Association’s Judicial Division, has chaired the Division’s Judicial Ethics & Professionalism Committee, and remains active in national initiatives to improve judicial service to the public. Judge Scieszinski serves on the faculty of the Iowa Judicial Branch’s New Judge School, and has served as a judge representative on the Iowa State Bar Association’s Public Service Project Board and its Bench-Bar Committee, and also fulfilled terms on the Iowa Supreme Court’s Client Security Commission. She is a frequent speaker on ethics issues for lawyers and judges. Judge Scieszinski maintains membership in the American, Iowa, and District 8-A Bar Associations, as well as in the Iowa Association of Women Attorneys; and, she is an active member of the Blackstone Inn of Court in Des Moines. She is married with four daughters and four grandchildren, and was a 4-H leader for 25 years. She currently serves as Chair of the Iowa Wesleyan University Board of Trustees.
