Judge Randy DeGeest, Oskaloosa, was first appointed to the bench on August 1, 2009 as a District Associate Judge. On February 1, 2013 he was appointed and as a District Court Judge. He graduated from Drake University with a BA in Political Science in 1974, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa and received his law degree from Drake Law School in 1978, Order of Coif, Law Review. Judge DeGeest was an attorney with the Spayde and Rielly law firm from 1978 - 1979 and was in private practice in Oskaloosa from 1979 - 2009 with an emphasis in mediation services. Judge DeGeest served as a part-time judicial magistrate for Mahaska County from 1979 to 1986, Judicial Hospitalization Referee from 1979 - 1990 and Oskaloosa city attorney from 1994 to 2009. He also served as the attorney for the Oskaloosa Community School District from 1981 - 2009. He is a member of the Mahaska County Bar Association and the Iowa State Bar Association. He was a past president of the Iowa Association of School Board Attorneys and Mediation Services of Eastern Iowa and was a past board member of the Iowa Association of Mediators.
