Juvenile Court Services Stakeholder Trainings
In 2023, The Iowa Supreme Court Juvenile Justice Task Force recommended JCS update the Iowa Delinquency Assessment and Detention Screening and Tracking Tool, using it to fidelity and having them regularly revalidated.
Following recommendations on how to increase the IDA’s predictive validity, we have strived to enhance the existing Iowa Delinquency. The new tool will better utilize risk and need, which will help us better meet the needs of the youth we work with. Attached you will find the Iowa Delinquency Assessment Stakeholder Training, as narrated by Dr. Hamilton. His presentation explains assessment scoring, the emphasis on youth needs, how gender and race/ethnic bias are mitigated in the assessment, and the updates to the assessment. https://iowajb.ispring.com/app/preview/0a867be0-8b23-11ef-b64b-de885a3b65e9
The Detention Screening Tool has also been enhanced with improved platform stability and streamlining to capture youth who present for potential detention on new charges. Additionally, we have combined three historic systems into one central repository to better understand both Juvenile Court Services directed holds, as well as mandatory holds that detention centers track for federal reporting requirements. This effort will eliminate duplicate data entry, provide a more cohesive data representation of youth in Iowa’s detention facilities, help identify those youth who are able to be served through detention alternative programs and assess the need for additional services in areas that are service deserts.
