Case No. 19-0519

Munger, Reinschmidt & Denne, L.L.P
v.
Roseanne M. Lienhard Plante and Chad L. Plante

The defendants appeal from the district court’s order granting summary judgment in favor of the plaintiff on its breach-of-contract claim for attorney fees owed pursuant to a contingency fee agreement. The district court found the attorney fee contract to be reasonable and valid at the time it was entered into and declined to reexamine the reasonableness of the contract at the conclusion of services. On appeal, the defendants contend the attorney fee contract should be evaluated for reasonableness throughout the operation of the contract. When evaluated in that matter, the defendants contend the contract violates Iowa Rule of Professional Conduct 32:1.5(a) and is thus void and unenforceable.
