Case No. 16-0900

State of Iowa
v.
James Michael Coleman

James Coleman appeals from his conviction for failure to comply with the sex offender registry, second offense, being a habitual offender. Coleman argues the evidence was insufficient to establish a violation of Iowa Code section 692A.105, and the jury instructions failed to properly inform the jury of the event which starts the five-business-day notification period. He contends his trial counsel was ineffective for failing to challenge the statute as unconstitutionally vague and for failing to challenge the habitual offender stipulation. Coleman further contends he was denied a fair trial due to prosecutorial misconduct and that the trial court erred in assessing appellate attorney fees.
