Jason Carter appeals from the jury verdict finding him civilly liable for the death of his mother and from the district court’s rulings on his petitions to vacate the judgment. He contends the district court erred: (1) in denying his motion to continue the trial while the homicide investigation was pending; (2) in denying his motion to quash plaintiffs’ subpoenas to the DCI; (3) in denying his motion notwithstanding the verdict; (4) in dismissing his petitions to vacate; and (5) in failing to recuse.
