Case No. 23-0598

Watch Oral Arguments Live

State of Iowa
v.
Ezekiel Kieffer

Ezekiel Kieffer appeals following his convictions for domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury or mental illness and domestic abuse assault impeding flow of air/blood. Kieffer argues the evidence was insufficient to support the finding of a domestic relationship between Kieffer and the victim. Kieffer further argues the district court erred in denying his motion for mistrial after the State presented evidence that violated the district court’s order in limine. Finally, Kieffer argues the firearm prohibitions triggered by his domestic abuse assault convictions violate his right to keep and bear arms under the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and article I, section 1A of the Iowa Constitution.
