New state and district judicial nominating commissions uniform rules of procedure available for public comment.

The State Judicial Nominating Commission (SJNC) met recently to approve for publication State and District Judicial Nominating Commissions Uniform Rules of Procedure.  Iowa Code Section 46.13(4) requires the SJNC to adopt uniform rules for the SJNC and the District Judicial Nominating Commissions that are consistent with Iowa Code and to provide a uniform and fair process for the commissions to consider applicants and select nominees for judicial office.  Section 46.13(4) further provides that the SJNC shall provide for a public comment period of at least thirty days on its proposed uniform rules prior to adopting the rules. 

The proposed State and District Judicial Nominating Commissions Uniform Rules of Procedure is posted on the Iowa Judicial Branch website and on the Iowa Judicial Nominating Commission website for a period of thirty days before formally adopted by the (SJNC).  The public may provide comments to the proposed State and District Judicial Nominating Commissions Uniform Rules of Procedure via email to the SJNC at sjnc@iowa.gov
