Judicial Nominating Commission begins process for selecting nominees for Iowa Court of Appeals vacancy

The State Judicial Nominating Commission, which is responsible for selecting nominees for appointment to the Iowa Court of Appeals, announced today it will begin accepting applications for the vacancy that will occur when Judge Gayle Vogel retires July 1, 2019. The Commission received notice of the vacancy from Governor Reynolds on June 12, 2019.  The Commission has sixty days to send a slate of nominees to the Governor, who makes appointments to the court.

Chief Judge Vogel Retirement Ceremony June 13, 2019

On Thursday, June 13, the Iowa Court of Appeals will hold a special ceremony to mark the retirement of Chief Judge Gayle Nelson Vogel. This public ceremony will be at 3:00 p.m. in the supreme court courtroom on the fourth floor of the Judicial Branch Building, 1111 E. Court Ave., Des Moines. Overflow seating will be available in the auditorium and elsewhere in the building. Chief Judge Vogel will retire July 1, 2019.

Juvenile Court Services moved to Cerro Gordo County Courthouse

Juvenile Court Services has temporarily moved from the Mohawk Square Building, 22 N. Georgia Ave. Suite 101, Mason City, to the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse, 220 North Washington Avenue, Mason City, after the Mohawk Square Building roof collapsed during last weekend’s heavy rainfall. It is not known when the building will reopen to the public.
