The State Judicial Nominating Commission, which is responsible for selecting nominees for appointment to the Iowa Supreme Court and the Iowa Court of Appeals, announced today it will begin accepting applications to fill Judge Christopher McDonald’s seat on the Iowa Court of Appeals.  Judge McDonald’s last day on the Iowa Court of Appeals will be March 6, 2019.  He will begin serving as a justice on the Iowa Supreme Court on March 7, 2019. The commission has sixty days from February 21, 2019, to send a slate of nominees to the Governor, who makes appointments to the court.

Danilson retired January 4, 2019. 

Des Moines, January 31, 2019— The Iowa Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case Mitchell v. City of Cedar Rapids, et al., during a special evening session in Des Moines, Tuesday, February 5, at 7:00 p.m. in the Supreme Court Courtroom on the fourth floor of the Judicial Branch Building, 1111 East Court Avenue. 

The evening session is open to the public and provides an opportunity for Iowa residents, who may not be able to attend the court's regular morning and afternoon sessions, to watch the court conduct oral arguments.

After completing public interviews of all 19 applicants, the State Judicial Nominating Commission has selected a slate of three nominees to fill the vacancy on the Iowa Supreme Court that occurred upon Justice Daryl Hecht’s retirement December 13, 2018.

Today, the State of Iowa Judicial Nominating Commission posted the interview schedule for the seven applicants who applied to fill Justice Hecht’s vacancy but did not apply for the Justice Zager vacancy. 

Nineteen Iowans have applied with the State Judicial Nominating Commission to fill the vacancy on the Iowa Supreme Court that occurred when Justice Daryl Hecht retired December 13, 2018.

Des Moines, January 9, 2019— On Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at 10 a.m. in the House Chambers, Chief Justice Mark Cady of the Iowa Supreme Court will address a joint convention of the General Assembly on the Condition of the Judiciary.
