Judicial Nominating Commission will concurrently select nominees for two Iowa Court of Appeals vacancies

The State Judicial Nominating Commission, which is responsible for selecting nominees for appointment to the Iowa Supreme Court and the Iowa Court of Appeals, announced today it will begin accepting applications to fill Judge Christopher McDonald’s seat on the Iowa Court of Appeals.  Judge McDonald’s last day on the Iowa Court of Appeals will be March 6, 2019.  He will begin serving as a justice on the Iowa Supreme Court on March 7, 2019. The commission has sixty days from February 21, 2019, to send a slate of nominees to the Governor, who makes appointments to the court.

Judicial Nominating Commission begins process for selecting nominees for Iowa Court of Appeals vacancy

The State Judicial Nominating Commission, which is responsible for selecting nominees for appointment to the Iowa Supreme Court and the Iowa Court of Appeals, announced today it will begin accepting applications for the vacancy that occurred when Chief Judge David R. Danilson retired January 4, 2019.

Iowa Supreme Court Schedules Special Evening Session in Des Moines

Des Moines, January 31, 2019— The Iowa Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case Mitchell v. City of Cedar Rapids, et al., during a special evening session in Des Moines, Tuesday, February 5, at 7:00 p.m. in the Supreme Court Courtroom on the fourth floor of the Judicial Branch Building, 1111 East Court Avenue. 

The evening session is open to the public and provides an opportunity for Iowa residents, who may not be able to attend the court's regular morning and afternoon sessions, to watch the court conduct oral arguments.

Judicial Nominating Commission begins process for selecting nominees for Supreme Court vacancy

The State Judicial Nominating Commission, which is responsible for selecting nominees for appointment to the Iowa Supreme Court, announced today it will begin accepting applications for the vacancy that occurred when Justice Daryl Hecht resigned effective today. The commission has sixty days from December 4, 2018, to send a slate of nominees to the Governor, who makes appointments to the court.
