Sixteen Iowans applied with the State Judicial Nominating Commission to fill the vacancy on the Iowa Court of Appeals that occurred when Judge Gayle Vogel retired on July 1, 2019.

Iowa Chief Justice Mark S. Cady has been named president of the Conference of Chief Justices (CCJ) and chair of the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) Board of Directors. The one-year terms became effective at the end of July, during CCJ’s annual conference and NCSC’s Board of Directors meetings in Asheville, N.C.

Sixteen Iowans have applied with the State Judicial Nominating Commission to fill the vacancy on the Iowa Court of Appeals that occurred when Judge Gayle Vogel retired on July 1, 2019.

This certification of the most recent one-year treasury constant maturity index published by the Federal Reserve in the H15 Report is distributed to the courts in conformance with Iowa Code Section 668.13(3) (2017).

June 28, 2019, is the last day of the 2018-2019 Iowa Supreme Court adjudicative term. During the term, 113 cases were submitted to the court. All of the cases submitted to the court are complete, and the opinions are available on the Iowa Judicial Branch website at https://www.iowacourts.gov/iowa-courts/supreme-court/supreme-court-opinions/. The State Judicial Nominating Commission, which is responsible for selecting nominees for appointment to the Iowa Court of Appeals, announced today it will begin accepting applications for the vacancy that will occur when Judge Gayle Vogel retires July 1, 2019. The Commission received notice of the vacancy from Governor Reynolds on June 12, 2019.  The Commission has sixty days to send a slate of nominees to the Governor, who makes appointments to the court.

On Thursday, June 13, the Iowa Court of Appeals will hold a special ceremony to mark the retirement of Chief Judge Gayle Nelson Vogel. This public ceremony will be at 3:00 p.m. in the supreme court courtroom on the fourth floor of the Judicial Branch Building, 1111 E. Court Ave., Des Moines. Overflow seating will be available in the auditorium and elsewhere in the building. Chief Judge Vogel will retire July 1, 2019.

On Friday, June 7, 2019, at 3:00 p.m., Governor Kim Reynolds will administer the oath of office to Iowa Court of Appeals Judges David May and Sharon Soorholtz Greer in a public ceremony in the House Chamber of the Iowa State Capitol.

Des Moines, IA. The Iowa Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in two cases at the Lawyers Chautauqua in the Arrowwood Resort & Conference Center, 1405 Highway 71, Okoboji, Thursday, May 30, 2019, at 2:00 p.m.  The oral arguments are open to the public and the court encourages people to attend.
