Des Moines, January 31, 2019— The Iowa Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case Mitchell v. City of Cedar Rapids, et al., during a special evening session in Des Moines, Tuesday, February 5, at 7:00 p.m. in the Supreme Court Courtroom on the fourth floor of the Judicial Branch Building, 1111 East Court Avenue. 

The evening session is open to the public and provides an opportunity for Iowa residents, who may not be able to attend the court's regular morning and afternoon sessions, to watch the court conduct oral arguments.

After completing public interviews of all 19 applicants, the State Judicial Nominating Commission has selected a slate of three nominees to fill the vacancy on the Iowa Supreme Court that occurred upon Justice Daryl Hecht’s retirement December 13, 2018.

Today, the State of Iowa Judicial Nominating Commission posted the interview schedule for the seven applicants who applied to fill Justice Hecht’s vacancy but did not apply for the Justice Zager vacancy. 

Nineteen Iowans have applied with the State Judicial Nominating Commission to fill the vacancy on the Iowa Supreme Court that occurred when Justice Daryl Hecht retired December 13, 2018.

Des Moines, January 9, 2019— On Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at 10 a.m. in the House Chambers, Chief Justice Mark Cady of the Iowa Supreme Court will address a joint convention of the General Assembly on the Condition of the Judiciary.

The Iowa Judicial Branch has launched a new juror notification process.  Beginning today, prospective jurors in Iowa will no longer receive a paper juror questionnaire in the mail with a summons to report for jury duty. Instead, prospective jurors will receive a post card with information on how to complete the questionnaire online.

On Friday, December 14, the Iowa Court of Appeals will hold a special ceremony to mark the retirement of Chief Judge David R. Danilson.
